These indigo cotton placemats are just right for casual summer dining out of doors. Perfect for an early morning breakfast or a light lunch under the sun umbrella, their dusky blue colour and open mesh patterning brings a welcome sense of cool even to the hottest of summer days.
The pattern includes instructions for two sizes of rectangular placemats and an oval central tablemat which is well-insulated to provide some protection for your tabletop. Pattern Information
DIFFICULTY: Intermediate
TECHNIQUES REQUIRED: Knitting, purling, increases, decreases, slipped stitches and working with two ends of yarn held together. For tablemat only: Circular cast on and working in the round. SIZES: Rectangular placemats: Medium, (Large) . Medium size: 30x40 cm / 12x16 ins . Large size: 35x46 cm / 14x18 ins Oval tablemat: 30x40 cm / 12x16 ins MATERIALS: Yarn: Rowan Original Denim worsted-weight 100% cotton yarn, 92m/100 yds: 50gm ball, Colour #001 Memphis (Light indigo blue), . Placemats: x3 (4) balls each . Tablemat: x3 balls each Actual amount used in samples as shown: Medium Placemat: 135gm/4.8 oz, 250m/273 yds Large Placemat: 181gm/6.5 oz, 333m/362 yds Tablemat: 132gm/4.7 oz, 243m/264 yds Yarn substitution: To use an alternative yarn, please select a light Aran or worsted-weight cotton yarn with a recommended gauge of about 20 sts:10 cm/4 ins using 4mm/US #6 needles when working with a single strand of yarn. Please note that the mats are worked with two ends of yarn held together. Needles: Size 4.5mm/US #7 circular needles, length 80cm/32 ins for the tablemat, and either circulars or 50cm/20 ins straight needles for the placemats. Gauge: 17 sts & 19 rows:10cm/4 ins in Double Moss Stitch, using 4.5mm/US #7 straight or circular needles and working with two ends of yarn held together. Notions: Row counter, markers and tapestry needle for finishing. |
