When the temperatures start falling at the end of summer, then it’s time to think about making some cozy accessories. So here’s a pattern with two options, a neckwarmer cowl and a longer infinity scarf.
The cowl is perfect for your autumn wardrobe – quick to knit, easy to carry in your pocket or bag and ready for the first icy breezes from the North. The infinity scarf is long enough to wrap round your neck twice for extra warmth, but can also be worn over your head like a hood. TECHNIQUES REQUIRED: Knitting, purling, provisional cast-on, grafting using Kitchener Stitch or working a 3-needle bind off. SIZES: Small/Cowl (Large/Infinity Scarf) Width: 20 (25)cm/8 (10) ins Circumference: 65 (150) cm/25.5 (60) ins MATERIALS: Yarn: West Yorkshire Spinners Bluefaced Leicester DK, 100% wool, 112m/122 yds: 50gm ball in Colour: #150 Blueberry x2* (6) balls. Actual amounts used: . Small size / Cowl: 94gm/3.3 oz, 210m/230 yds . Large size / Infinity Scarf: 270gm/9.5 oz, 607m/664 yds * Note: The small size / Cowl used almost all of the 2 balls of yarn specified. Please purchase or hold an extra ball to ensure you have enough yarn to complete your project. Yarn substitution: To use an alternative yarn, please select a soft DK (Double Knitting) wool yarn with a recommended gauge of about 22 sts:10 cm/4 ins using 4.0-4.5 mm/US #6-7 needles. Needles: Size 4.5 mm/US #7 needles, minimum length 20 (25)cm/8 (10) ins. . Note: An additional needle of the same size will be required if you will be joining the scarf with a 3-needle bind-off. Gauge: 26 sts & 28 rows:10cm/4 ins in Mistake Rib, using 4.5mm/US #7 needles. Notions: Tapestry needle for finishing plus crochet hook & small amount of waste yarn for Provisional Cast-On. |
