Nothing warms a New England winter more than a cozy rug to step onto first thing in the morning. The Rare Earth Rug can be worked from handspun yarn, as here, or with commercially available yarns in natural shades of browns, greys and off-whites.


The wonderfully gentle gradations of colour are achieved by working with two strands of yarn in ever-changing combinations.

Difficulty:  Intermediate

Finished Size: 85 x 105 cm / 33 x 41 ins

Yarn: 
Cascade 220 worsted wt yarn, 100% wool, 
   
200m/220 yds:100gm ball or handspun equivalent 

5 co-ordinating colours: 
   Col #1 x1 ball, Col 2 x3 balls, Col 3 x4 balls
   Col 4 x3 balls, Col 5 x 1 ball


Needles:
100cm/40 ins circ ndl in size 5.5mm/US #9


Gauge: 
18 sts/32 rows:10cm/4 ins in Ridged Rib patt
   using 2 strands of yarn held tog & 5.5mm/US #9 ndls

 
Notions:
Tapestry ndl for finishing ends

Optional: Non-slip rug backing + sewing needle & thread
