Stop off at the ice-cream stand then head for a day at the beach with a shoulder bag in colourful stripes of strawberry, apricot and lemon ice. The Weymouth Shoulder Bag is the perfect size for all the accessories you need for a day on the sands.


The bag is worked in a crisp cotton yarn and is lined with a lightweight cotton fabric for a versatile summer holdall. It features long knitted handles and the base includes a canvas mesh insert for extra support.

Pattern Information

DIFFICULTY: Intermediate

TECHNIQUES REQUIRED:
Knitting Techniques: Knitting, purling, provisional cast-on, slipped stitches, increases & working in the round.
Sewing Techniques: Sewing a cotton liner.

SIZE: 26.5cm/10.5 ins high x 30cm/12 ins wide.
Drop from handle to base: 61cm/24 ins.    

MATERIALS:
Yarn: Paintbox Cotton Aran, light worsted weight yarn, 100% cotton, 85m/93 yds:50gm ball in Cols:
MC: #654 Blush Pink x2 balls, 
CC1: #655 Peach Orange x1 ball,
CC2: #621 Banana Cream x1 ball
​& CC3: #601 Paper White x1 ball

Actual amount of yarn used:
MC: 57gm/2.0 oz, 97m/106 yds for bag & 40gm/1.4 oz, 68m/74 yds for handles,
CC1: 44gm/1.5 oz, 75m/82 yds,
CC2: 22gm/0.8 oz, 37m/41 yds,
& CC3: 11gm/0.4 oz, 19m/21 yds,
Total: 174gm/6.1 oz, 296m/324 yds.

Yarn substitution: To use an alternative yarn, please select a light worsted weight cotton yarn with a recommended gauge of about 20 sts:10 cm/4 ins using 4.0-4.5mm/US #6-7 needles.

Needles: 
Size 3.75mm/US #5 circular needles in lengths 60cm/24 ins & 100cm/40 ins,
& size 3.5mm/US #4 straight needles, length 20cm/8 ins.

Gauge:
20 sts & 30 rounds to 10cm/4 ins in Embossed Check Stitch using 3.75mm/US #5 needles, when slightly stretched lengthwise. 

Bag Liner:
Fabric: 0.45m, ½ yd medium-weight cotton fabric, 90cm/36 ins wide.
Base stiffening: 1 sheet plastic canvas mesh size #7.

Notions: Row counter, markers, scissors, pins, sewing needle, thread & tapestry needle plus crochet hook and small amount of waste yarn for Provisional Cast-On.
