Poppy display in Corsham, photo by Tim Ravenscroft for Wyndlestraw Designs

New Blogpost:
Poppies in Wiltshire

Knitters, one and all – you made so many poppies!

Well done to everyone who knitted Poppy Flowers for this year's special Remembrance Day, whether it was for a display close to home or if you sent flowers for the event that I wrote about previously here.

The organisers in Corsham were hoping for 10,000 poppies but ended up with more than three times that number – so thank you everyone.

New free pattern – Poppies!

Poppy flowers by Moira Ravenscroft, Wyndlestraw Designs
It is truly wonderful what you can achieve in knitting. Starting with a length of yarn, you can end up with a bag, a scarf or a tableful of poppies! That is what I have been doing recently as there is a poppy appeal in my local town to create a display for Remembrance Day in November.

If you would like to knit a poppy of your own, then have a look at the free Poppy Flower knitting pattern I have just uploaded!

I used the Purl Cable Cast-On for my poppies, and if you'd like to know how to work this, then please click here.

New scarf pattern

And here is a new scarf, the Avebury Scarf.  This design was inspired by our visit to the standing stones at Avebury in Wiltshire. As the clouds scudded past in the strong breeze, the stones changed from a light grey to a wonderfully deep indigo blue. Quite magical...

The scarf is completely reversible and is worked using a sportweight wool yarn for a light-weight but warm result.

The pattern includes instructions for two widths and three lengths so you can tailor the scarf for a range of wrapping styles. Read more about the pattern here.
